To Niche Or Not To Niche?

I believe one of the biggest reasons that many new and would be Internet Marketers quit before making their first sale online is because, we/they do not quite understand the purpose or need to find and be in a niche market or to at least target our/their marketing.

I know when I first started I did not know the importance of niche marketing, heck I didn’t even know what the word meant.

I have since learned that researching for your target market is the very first, and probably most important step in starting your Internet Marketing career, that is, if you want to have the greater chance of having a successful online career.

When I first began, it seemed whenever I asked others what a niche was and how to find one, I always got the same answer, and that was, make out a list of the things in your life that you are passionate about, like your hobbies, jobs you’ve had, things you’ve done in your life etc…

The problem for me though, and probably with most newbies was and is, we don’t feel we have anything to offer the market place if we have to find and rely on finding a niche from our hobbies and passions.

I know I sure felt as if I did not have anything to offer the market place.

My list was very short and consisted of things I like which were, smooth jazz, I collected die cast medal cars, I liked personal development and I had some experience with the online dating world. Do you see any niche markets in that list? I sure didn’t.

I am an entrepreneur and I like seeking ways to make money, so naturally I thought, I’d get into the money making niche. But, the ”pro’s” would always say, don’t get into the money making niche because it is already saturated. I now wonder if they told me and others like me that so as to try and keep down the competition?

I don’t know how many times I heard that though, “don’t get into the money making market.” So I began to think, what else is left, that I’d be passionate about?

Well, if you are new and you are thinking about getting into Internet Marketing, I encourage you not to despair, there is still room for you, yes even in the money making niche. The Internet is a big market and it’s growing bigger everyday.

However, the truth is, you will probably have a much better chance of success if you have a specific niche you are marketing to.

In the next and hopefully last post on this topic, we will look at some markets that are proven to be the most successful markets to target your niche or niches in.
